Hello. This blog is maintained sort of kept together with bits of string and sealing wax and twisted paper clips by me, Mat Morrison.
I head up the digital planning discipline at Porter Novelli, the global PR agency. I am not — in fact — a PR person by training; but I am a digital marketing and communications person. You can read more about my career on LinkedIn.
What I write here does not necessarily reflect the views or opinions of my employer. That would be most unlikely (unless Porter Novelli has as high an opinion of my abilities and general skill-ness as I do.)
Interests
This is my miscellany blog — it’s a place where I can keep a record of some of the things that I’m working on, that have caught my attention. I find that writing things down forces me to think a little more carefully about what it is that I know and believe. What this means for the content of this blog I don’t know, but I wouldn’t vouch for the accuracy of anything.
On this blog I spend a lot of my time thinking about influence, and how it passes through networks. I share the results of my experiments in mapping those networks. Twitter has been a boon to me (lots of public information about directed relationships), and I occasionally hack around with things like Excel, Google Docs, perl and Yahoo! Pipes. I occasionally share my thoughts and opinions about this stuff, and even more infrequently offer kiss-and-tell insights into my life.
Very, very rarely will I find stuff that I want to share here. That stuff is more normally available through my delicious and Digg accounts. I used to use StumbleUpon but don’t any more.
I keep a collection of web videos using VodPod, but haven’t yet fixed the CSS so that it works on Internet Explorer. If you’re using IE, you may want to go here instead.
Whereabouts
Most of the time I am based in London. You can get an idea of where I am from Dopplr.
Blogs
I also blog at (or have blogged at):
Under Construction: We’ve been redesigning the Porter Novelli website, and this is a project blog that we used to keep our various stakeholders up to date.
Clicking & Screaming: My team blogs here as part of our internal comms and education programme. I’ve slowed down on posting there at the moment, but that only makes it a better read.
PNeo: We set this up as a training blog to support our initial education programme.
Getting me to write about your stuff
OK – first off – If you don’t already know me, I’m probably not the person you’re looking for. This isn’t that sort of blog (and it doesn’t have a big enough audience to make it worth your while). But I’ll gladly consider anything you send me; while reserving the right (a) to ignore you, and (b) to use your approach to fine tune my company’s own product.
